Summer must haves

As the spring/summer season started, I'm sure a lot of you started updating your wardrobe. Those shorts and t-shirts you bought last year just didn't cut it anymore this year. I know... I've done some shopping too.

I wanted to have a look at the "it" pieces of this season and whether or not they can actually be worn. I'm sure you'll agree when I say that not all trends are really that wearable. So, the best way is to pick the ones that work for you and forget about the rest!

All the pictures are from my fashion board in Pinterest. If you're interested to see more, you can have a look at it here.

The midi skirt

My personal favourite. These were actually already hot last summer. Or at least they were in London but are only now starting to arrive here in Finland. Typical...

The midi is best in a sheer fabric like chiffon so it has more natural movement. I also really like the ones with pleats. Colours and patterns vary and you can just pick the one you like. As it ends below the knee a pair of high heels WILL make it look better.

As for an outfit suggestion, let the skirt shine and pick a simple top. The girl in the picture has paired her skirt with a white vest or t-shirt and I think that's perfect.

Mint

The colour of the season is definitely mint. This summer everything comes in mint but it seems the most popular item are the mint trousers. They instantly make you feel like summer and are super easy to wear. Pair with a light coloured top for a fresh summer look or with sequins for a night out.

Mint also works well with other pastels so think of ice cream and combine your mint trousers with a pink strawberry top and lilac blueberry shoes. Or stick with neutrals if that's more to your taste. Maybe just add some pastel accessories or a pink lip.
The waterfall

Whether a skirt or a dress, the waterfall shape has been really popular this season. I bought a dress in this shape for a friend's wedding and absolutely love it. There are lots of options out there and as they're sold everywhere from H&M to more high end, I think we can all afford it.

The key is to choose a skirt or a dress where the front is not too short. Obviously, if you've got the legs, go for it but for the majority of us, a bit of modesty will help. A fab pair of shoes will show nicely as the front is short so you can justify buying those new heels now.
Neon

My last "it" thing is neon. Perhaps the scariest of these but actually it can work on all of us. If you're tanned and brave, choose a piece of clothing. A vest or a skirt will look beautiful with a bit of tanned skin.

However, if you're not quite sure about this whole neon thing, choose an accessory. A necklace, like the one in the picture, is a perfect way to try this trend. A pair of shoes or a cute bag will also do the trick.
The only question now is, which one of these trends will you try first?
